From 8 to 12 June 2026, the Climate Adaptation Summer School (CASS III) took place within the framework of the Youth4CLIMED project, with the technical and scientific contribution of PAP/RAC. The initiative brought together 16 Erasmus+ students from Croatia, Italy, Türkiye and Spain, with the aim of strengthening understanding of climate change challenges and developing practical skills for climate adaptation and sustainable coastal planning.
The training programme opened with a lecture on the impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean, widely recognised as one of the most climate-vulnerable regions in the world. Through interactive discussions, participants examined how these impacts are already affecting their countries and coastal communities.
In the following days, attention focused on the Mediterranean policy and governance framework for climate adaptation, with group activities dedicated to analysing the Regional Framework for Adaptation to Climate Change (RFACC) and developing recommendations for its implementation.
A key part of the training was devoted to nature-based solutions, climate indicators, and coastal planning tools. Drawing on concrete Mediterranean examples, the trainers illustrated how integrated approaches can help strengthen the resilience of coastal areas.
Students also took part in a simulation exercise replicating a stakeholder consultation process in a fictional coastal area. By assuming different roles, they negotiated priorities and sustainable development solutions, highlighting the importance of dialogue and evidence-based decision-making.
The Summer School concluded with the drafting of a Youth Declaration on Climate Action, reflecting participants’ commitment to actively contributing to climate resilience and sustainable development in the Mediterranean.
The Youth4CLIMED project will continue with CASS IV, scheduled to take place in Izmir (Türkiye) in October 2026, while the final conference will be held in Split in February 2027, bringing together partners, experts and young participants to share results and project experiences.
