Rome will host the Euro Mediterranean Water Forum from 29 September. Organized by the One Water Committee, with the support of CIHEAM Bari, in collaboration with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the Mediterranean Water Institute of Marseille, the event, scheduled to run until 2 October, will be a true platform for dialogue among policymakers, civil society, academia and businesses. The programme will feature numerous high-level debates highlighting technological and procedural innovations in the water sector.
As many as 43 countries will be represented at the Forum: Mediterranean and European countries, as well as the European Commission, EU Member States, the Balkans, the Arabian Peninsula and Sub-Saharan Africa. All will come together to address the most pressing challenges related to water use and water security in the Mediterranean.
The main topics
The objective of the Forum is to bring together policymakers, businesses, civil society and academia to address the region’s “water trilemma” — too little water, too much water or water that is too polluted — with the aim of building a shared path towards water security in the Mediterranean by 2050.
Among the main topics addressed in the Forum’s eleven thematic sessions are water scarcity, the prevention and management of extreme events, finance, governance, technology and hydrodiplomacy.
UNEP/MAP at the Forum
Among the meetings, we highlight the participation, on 30 September, of Tatjana Hema, Coordinator of the UNEP/MAP, in the Higt Level Panel Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus (T5). The panel traces how Integrated Water Resources Management evolved into the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus, a governance framework for interdependent resource systems.
