The fourth Joint Transnational Call of the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership is now open. Entitled “Building a sustainable and innovative Blue Economy: mastering digital opportunities and fostering resilience”, the call aims to support transnational research and innovation projects addressing the key challenges of a sustainable and resilient blue economy.
With an estimated budget of €38 million, the call will focus on four priority areas:
Priority area 1: Transitioning the blue economy sectors for sustainability and strategic autonomy
Priority area 2: Managing sea-uses by advancing digital and ecosystem-based approaches
Priority area 3: Promoting sustainable blue bioresources through innovation in marine production and harvesting
Priority area 4: Building resilience in coastal communities with infrastructure and businesses
Projects should have a duration of 36 months and involve partners from at least three participating countries. The call also encourages the participation of businesses, public authorities, associations and civil society organisations.
Projects should make a concrete contribution to the transition towards a blue economy capable of ensuring a more resilient future and contributing to the achievement of climate neutrality targets, following an approach based on the so-called impact pathway.
Proposals are recommended to consider at least two European sea basins and to assess the impact of the project across different basins. Proposals may address European regional seas such as the Adriatic Sea, Aegean Sea, Arctic Ocean, Barents Sea, Celtic Sea, etc. However, the sea basins recommended for consideration are the Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea, North Sea and Atlantic Ocean.
