CAMP Otranto: it’s coming!

Reducing pollution, particularly marine litter, improving the sustainability of coastal and maritime tourism and strengthening biodiversity conservation in the regions of Vlora, Albania, and Puglia, Italy... these are the main objectives of the cross-border CAMP project, the coastal zone management programme in the Straits of Otranto.

In order to contribute to biodiversity and nature protection, several training sessions aimed at improving knowledge of marine environment conservation will begin this autumn.

These will begin in Vlore on 20 October with a course on marine litter and ecotourism, and will continue in Tirana on 27 October with a course on the key points of integrated coastal zone management, while on 21 November, also in Tirana, a course will be held on data management.
On 14 November, training on area-based management tools (ABMT) and other effective area-based conservation measures (OECM) will go online.

Participants will have free access to the training course on the MedOpen platform (an intermediate level of English is required).

The courses will be run by experts in waste management, prevention and legal and implementation solutions. The course on eco-tourism in the Vlora region will explore the main developments in the tourism sector, the impact of legislation on nature and how to align the region's natural values with sustainable development.

CAMP Otranto is coordinated by PAP/RAC with support from INFO/RAC and the project's national coordinators. Implementation is overseen by the CAMP Otranto Steering Committee, with the particular involvement of the Albanian Ministry of Tourism and Environment (AMTE) and the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (IMEES), as well as the Vlora region (AL) and the Puglia region (IT).
