In the framework of the Climate Change COP 22, held in Marrakesh, Morocco, the United Nations Environment Programme / Mediterranean Action Plan – Secretariat to the Barcelona Convention had a series of side events. The first one was organized on 11 November 2016, with its Plan Bleu and Priority Actions Programme Regional Activity Centers around the “Mediterranean Climate Change Adaptation Framework”. It aimed at presenting the instruments developed by the MAP-Barcelona Convention, the analyses and results obtained through the work in the Mediterranean region in terms of climate change adaptation and mitigation.

15 September 2016 - The United Nations Environment Programme / Mediterranean Action Plan – Secretariat to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols (UNEP / MAP) and the Italian Ministry of Environment signed on 14 September in Rome, a bilateral cooperation agreement for the protection of the sea, in the presence of H.E Ms. Silvia Velo, the Italian Undersecretary for Environment.
