The second edition of the Union for the Mediterranean’s report on regional integration was published on 12 September. Released in the year marking the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Process, the report examines the state of Euro-Mediterranean economic interconnectedness and provides data-driven policy recommendations to promote integration as a driver of sustainable economic growth and social development.

Produced by the UfM in collaboration with the OECD and with the support of German Development Cooperation (GIZ), this evidence-based analysis focuses on five key areas: trade, finance, infrastructure, the movement of people, and higher education and research.

Building on the first edition published in 2021, the report updates the analytical framework with three new cross-cutting dimensions: gender equality, digitalisation, and environmental protection. It also highlights regional challenges and opportunities, offering actionable insights for policymakers and stakeholders.

The 2025 report aims to serve as a key reference for fostering a more resilient, inclusive, and interconnected Mediterranean.
