Mark your calendars: Coast Day, the annual celebration of the Mediterranean coast. returns on 25 September,
It is a call to our collective responsibility: by bringing together institutions, experts, communities, and citizens, Coast Day inspires solutions, raises awareness, and promotes lasting action for coastal resilience throughout the year.
Coast Day is part of the UNEP/MAP Barcelona Convention system and is coordinated by PAP/RAC, the Regional Activity Centre for Coastal Management.
The central focus of this year’s edition is on institutions, which are essential to driving meaningful change across the Mediterranean. From policy development and implementation of protection measures to scientific research and knowledge sharing, these organizations play a vital role in building a sustainable coastal future.
The 2025 edition recognizes and celebrates their efforts – and invites everyone to get involved, supporting the people and processes that are shaping our coastal communities.
According to Daria Povh-Škugor, PAP/RAC Director: “The 2025 edition of Coast Day is entirely dedicated to the institutions that are creating impact along our shores. They protect the coastal and marine environment, plan, draft regulations, make decisions, and share knowledge and tools. The goal is to build a better and more sustainable future for our coastal regions.
As we approach 25 September, we want to highlight the incredible work these organizations are doing – from hands-on projects that protect and restore coastal ecosystems, to innovative policy efforts that bring real benefits to local communities. We are celebrating their successes and exploring how everyone, in their own way, can support and amplify these efforts.”
So save the date – 25 September – and get ready!
