Odyssey Reloaded continues its virtual journey across the Mediterranean

A new historic milestone has arrived for the Mediterranean: after last year’s 50th anniversary of UNEP/MAP, 2026 will mark the half-century of the Barcelona Convention, adopted on 16 February 1976.

To commemorate this important occasion, the pan-Mediterranean digital campaign Odyssey Reloaded continues and is renewed.
The initiative, launched last year to celebrate 50 years of UNEP/MAP, now resumes its virtual journey across the Mediterranean, with events and activities involving institutions, local communities, and citizens in a shared path supporting the protection of the Mare Nostrum.

Odyssey Reloaded aims to raise public awareness, foster dialogue with officials and policymakers, strengthen the engagement of younger generations, and create a meeting space for ideas, projects, and best practices across the Mediterranean region.

The campaign echoes and reinforces the call contained in the Ministerial Declaration of COP 24 of the Barcelona Convention to accelerate implementation and achieve concrete, measurable results by 2030.

The symbolic heart of the initiative is a virtual ship that ideally connects coastal cities, institutions, organizations, associations, and citizens committed to the protection of the marine and coastal environment.
Through an interactive map, Odyssey Reloaded provides an overview of events organized in the Mediterranean Sea and along its coasts: it is a window into the Barcelona Convention and its protocols, promoting its environmental commitments and highlighting the work carried out by the Contracting Parties, MAP Partners, and other regional stakeholders.

Odyssey Reloaded is not only a celebration but also a concrete opportunity: it offers a space for everyone who wants to share their events, initiatives, and appointments.

The journey continues: “Hoist the sails! is the invitation accompanying this new phase of the campaign, a true call to action, collaboration, and building a more sustainable future for the Mare Nostrum.
