There is time until November 30th to participate in the WEFE4MED Nexus Award, the competition designed to highlight practical demonstrations of the WEFE approach in the Mediterranean.
The Award aims to recognize and give visibility to demonstrator projects that present practical solutions based on the Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus approach, whose main goal is to promote the adoption of a WEFE Nexus-oriented framework in the Mediterranean. This is achieved through the creation of a Nexus Community of Practice (NCoP) to address the climatic and environmental challenges faced by societies and agro-ecological systems in the region.
The WEFE4MED Award will honour “The Most Impressive WEFE Nexus Demonstrator Project in the Mediterranean Region.”
The competition is open to all: in addition to ensuring greater visibility for the selected project, the winning demonstrator will have the opportunity to present their work during an International Conference co-organised by the WEFE4MED consortium in the first quarter of 2026, and will also be invited to participate in the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum in Rome, from 29 September to 2 October 2026.
A central element of the initiative is the network of demonstration sites located throughout the Mediterranean basin, showcasing the usefulness and socio-economic feasibility of the WEFE Nexus approach. Demonstration sites that have not yet been published on the WEFE4MED Knowledge Hub are also invited to participate in the competition.
The WEFE4MED Project promotes the adoption of a Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus approach in the Mediterranean through the creation of a Nexus Community of Practice (NCoP). By bringing together practitioners, scientists, policymakers, civil society representatives, media, entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors, the NCoP aims to foster dialogue and knowledge exchange, while promoting best practices, science-based policies, and innovative solutions inspired by the demonstration sites.
Submission deadline: November 30, 2025
Evaluation phase: December 1, 2025 – January 15, 2026
