A Guide for Supporting Sustainable Businesses
The latest publication by MedWaves, “Navigating sustainable and circular business support in the Mediterranean: a regional outlook”, explores the role of ecosystems and organisations in supporting businesses.
Since 2015, MedWaves has been promoting The Switchers Support Programme, which aims to strengthen ecosystems supporting sustainable businesses in the Mediterranean. The programme acts on multiple fronts: direct support to companies, strengthening BSOs, access to markets and finance, and the development of enabling public policies.
BSOs play a crucial role in creating favourable conditions for the development of circular and sustainable businesses, also through networking and training.
The publication includes contributions from around 15 organisations across different Mediterranean countries and is structured into three main sections:
- Role of BSOs
- Access to finance and investment
- Supporting public policies
A fourth section collects testimonials from entrepreneurs.
A central element of the publication is the Mediterranean Manifesto for Sustainable and Circular Business Development, which proposes 10 principles for BSOs, such as applying innovative methodologies, developing internal capacities, and ensuring inclusiveness and equity.
Adopted last December, the Manifesto brings together organisations from across the region and has already received the support of over 30 organisations in more than 10 countries, demonstrating strong momentum toward a sustainable future.
