The European Commission has launched a call for contributions for Ocean Observation, one of the pillars of the European Ocean Pact, the global strategy aimed at protecting the ocean, promoting a blue economy, and supporting the well-being of people living in coastal areas.
The call has been launched by the European Commission with the goal of improving access to marine knowledge and making Europe a global leader in ocean observation.
Contributions may be submitted until 27 February 2026. Once collected, these funds will be channeled into the development of the Ocean Observation Initiative.
The initiative aims to promote marine knowledge, research, and innovation; design a new governance framework for ocean observation; foster international scientific collaboration; and bring ocean observation closer to citizens.
Announced under the European Ocean Pact, the European Ocean Observation Initiative will strengthen the EU’s capacity to observe the oceans and enhance European autonomy in a context of geopolitical change.
