A Carbon Footprint is “the total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2)”. Calculators for CO2 emissions enable us to measure the environmental impact of events, flight, car, households, etc.

Available calculators for CO2 emissions:

  • MyClimate: Calculate/compensate emissions from flights, cars, households, corporate, events, cruises, … (local/global)
  • CERO CO2: GHG emissions associated to transport
  • International Civil Aviation Organization (A United Nations Specialized Agency- CO2 emissions from air travel)
  • TRAVEL NAV (Flight Emissions Calculator- it shows the route of the plane)

Offset management:

The remaining greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions must be compensated for by offsetting them through GHG reduction measures elsewhere. This compensation can be done by purchasing “carbon offsets”. When one purchases offsets, one is investing in projects that result in emission reductions elsewhere, that would not have occurred in the absence of the project.

COP 20 Information Booth

During COP 20, a booth dedicated to the MAP Sustainable Operations will be located in the lobby and will present the progresses of the RACs and the way forward regarding the ISO 20121. A quiz and a CO2 Emission calculator will also be proposed in order to heighten awareness on Sustainable Operations.
