Press release - MedECC MAR1: Climate and Environmental Change in the Mediterranean Basin

The First Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1) on “Climate and Environmental Change in the Mediterranean Basin – Current Situation and Risks for the Future” is now finished. The report was prepared by the independent network of Mediterranean Experts on Climate and environmental Change (MedECC) founded in 2015.

Through the assessment on the best available scientific knowledge on climate and environmental change and associated risks in the Mediterranean Basin, MAR 1 fills knowledge gaps and provide evidence accessible to policymakers, stakeholders and citizens.

The report includes a Summary for Policy-makers (SPM), which comprises the key messages of the MAR1. The SPM is available in Arabic, English and French.

MAR1 was produced under a flagship Initiative of the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD) 2016-2025.

The UNEP/MAP – Barcelona Convention Secretariat, through its Plan Bleu Regional Activity Centre, and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean worked in partnership to support MedECC, and to contribute to establish a sound and transparent scientific assessment process. Many other institutions  also supported the preparation of this report.

The Secretariat of MedECC is hosted by the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre Plan Bleu based in Marseille, France.
