Spatial Data Infrastructure
The InfoMAP Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) consists mainly of the GeoViewer, the Catalogue and the GeoDatabase.
The SDI will provide 3 main services:
- Discovery: search and access information on MAP themes provided by MAP Components (Medpol, RACs and, when appropriate, MEDU) and progressively by the Mediterranean Countries (Contracting Parties);
- View: Display spatial datasets on the interactive map (WebGIS features);
- Download: public users (or authorised users depending on Data Policy rules applicable to the specific dataset) will be able to select and download numerical data or maps of their interest.
On the Catalogue, authorised users from MAP Components (in the future also from Contracting Parties), will be grant editing privileges, in order to “declare” their “sources of information” using standardised metadata. The datasets will be published and then accessible through the GeoViewer.
As already said, the GeoViewer will be accessible from InfoMAP Portal (i.e. the one-stop-shop of InfoMAP system), with different features for authorised/public users.
Access, view and download of data will be subjected to MAP Data Policy rules (see above), but a minimum set of information (i.e. the metadata), describing at least the source of data should be always available, as well as the contact point.
Sources of information catalogued and managed through the SDI will refer basically to spatial data. Other kind of source of information, without a spatial nature (such as reports and publications, movies, etc), containing data or not, will be managed either by the Agorà or by the Data Centre (see below), as appropriate.
InfoMAP roadmap provides a final architecture as a distributed system. In that final architecture, only the GeoViewer, the Catalogue, and the GeoDatabase for regional level reference datasets will reside centrally at the Regional Node managed by Info/RAC, while data sources (spatial datasets and data services) and distributed catalogues will remain at the providers’ side (i.e. MAP Components and CPs information systems).
