Propelling SMEs and businesses into a green future

Ms Tatjana Hema, UNEP/MAP Coordinator, recalled the role of MedWaves, the Regional Activity Centre of UNEP/MAP for Sustainable Consumption and Production during the event “Propelling SMEs and businesses into a green future” organized by ENI CBC MED today. The event was held at Mediterranean Pavilion co-organized by UNEP/MAP, UFM and PRIMA.

The decarbonisation of our economy is vital to achieve the transition to zero. SMEs, which represent more than 90% of businesses across the Mediterranean, have a key role to play in the transition to a more sustainable future.
The event examined solutions and projects linked to the ENI CBC MED Programme that promote the adoption of environmental practices, green business models and circular economy principles to foster economic growth that does not endanger our ecosystems and natural resources.

Issues on how businesses, particularly SMEs, can harness the potential of the green economy while maintaining their competitiveness and how to make the green transition a real opportunity for SMEs rather than a burden were discussed.
